Account Supervisor

The Account Supervisor is responsible for overall agency service and activities on one or more accounts. Acting as a brand champion, both internally and externally, they are experts in the businesses they represent. They provide strategic input, tactical planning and direction on their account(s), supervising the client’s scope(s) of work and assigned account team. In addition to activating, developing, implementing and measuring bodies of work, the Account Supervisor works to build and maintain positive client relationships, fostering trust, respect and confidence. Their collective knowledge, expertise and client relationships enables an Account Supervisor to effectively work through difficult conversations or situations with clients and/or the internal team.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete client immersion – own the business and category knowledge
  • Drive the client business and category immersion process, bringing insights to the larger team and unearthing new opportunities to propel the client’s business forward
  • Drive development and completion of annual Brand Management business deliverables
    • ‘State of the Client’ whole business audit
    • Category and competitive audit (with participation/support from AE)
    • SWOT analysis
  • Support (Group) Account Director on all aspects of financial management including development of annual agency compensation proposals and client contracts; client financials; annual client billing projections for agency planning; agency P&L
  • Identify opportunities for organic growth (client)


  • Develop and nurture relationships with mid-level client management, including director and manager level
  • Manage and develop agency relationships across disciplines/departments
  • Support (Group) Account Director with planning and conducting annual team check-ups and immersion outings
  • Mentor assigned Account Executive(s), supporting training and development for career path growth


  • Partner with (Group) Account Director on development of integrated strategic communications plans, providing client business insights and holistic ecosystem intelligence (paid, owned, earned), driving discussion/agreement on KPIs and leading budgeting process for optimal allocations to meet objectives
  • Track key competitors and participate in the development of annual competitive analysis
  • Develop comprehensive but concise creative and media briefing documents, collaborating with and securing buy-in from agency disciplines
  • Review and provide constructive input on the executional briefs drafted by Account Executive(s)
  • Proactively engage with agency partners to ensure program of work is being developed in accordance with the vision set out in the plan
  • Lead client presentations to ensure the work is presented strategically and in the best light; be prepared with the agency’s recommendation or POV
  • Supervise Account Executive(s) in their direct responsibility for day-to-day development and implementation, ensuring program execution is on strategy, on time and on budget
    • Conduct regular one-on-ones to ensure milestones are being met, determine creative rotations, proof the work for content, accuracy, proper length/unit, etc.
  • Oversee billing and budget to ensure its being properly managed day-to-day
  • Evaluate client programs, plans, research and other applicable data (in partnership with Insights & Strategy, Creative and Media teams) to inform future work


  • Cultivate clear points of view regarding overall marketing strategies, media approaches and creative outputs, with the ability to express a POV constructively and with rationale
  • Drafts written POVs (at least 2 per year) to add value, inspire and/or educate client


  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external parties to ensure the buy-in and support of all key project stakeholders
  • Foster collaboration and positive conflict resolution among team members


Required Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Characteristics

  • 6-8 years of relevant work experience; full service agency experience is mandatory
  • Experience supervising and directing teams across all disciplines of communications
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Strategic thinker with experience analyzing, interpreting and applying research
    • Understand website/media analytics, data attribution and syndicated/ qualitative/quantitative research
